Add a Touch of Tour De France to Your Home

Add a touch of Tour De France to your Home

Style inspiration can be found around every corner, and with the Tour De France upon us, here at I Want Wallpaper, we’ve started thinking about how to add a touch of Tour De France chic to any living space.

Taking our design cues from the mountains, the jerseys, the riders and La Belle France herself, here’s our handy guide to adding a touch of cycling style to your home.

King of the Mountains

The distinctive King of the Mountains jersey, which is awarded to the strongest climber in the Tour De France, is a great reference point if you’re looking to update your home.

Think red and white polka dot accessories, fabrics and wallpapers, such as this Graham & Brown Contour Dotty wallpaper.

Take inspiration from the other jerseys too: sunshine yellow and grass green are fabulous accent colours, which can be off-set with off-whites and creams is you’re after a subtler effect.

You might also like to bring a touch of the outside inside. Here at I Want Wallpaper, one of our favourite stages of the Tour De France is the mountainous stage. Tall pine trees flank the road, making us dream of escape and adventure. Think about creating a feature wall, or breathing new life into a seldom used space with a stunning mural, such as this atmospheric wall forest.

On your bike

Vintage bicycle frames are surprisingly versatile. It’s possible to upcycle vintage bike frames and create stunning light fixtures and objects d’art.

You might also like to invest in a few bicycle-themed accessories. Many different fabrics, mugs, vases and artworks feature bikes and cyclists, and provide you with a great opportunity to subtly update your décor.

Add a touch of je ne sais quoi

When it comes to style, the French have really got it nailed. If you fancy bringing a touch of Gallic charm into your home, get down to your nearest antique market and pick up a few French fancies.

French glass and tableware is often surprisingly inexpensive and versatile, while scatter cushions, throws and rugs all add texture to your scheme.

Get the kids involved

If your little ones are as fixated on the Tour De France as we are, get them involved in your decorating plans. You’ll be amazed at the ideas they’ll come up with!

If you’re considering redecorating a playroom or your child’s bedroom, a bold red, white and blue scheme could be just the thing.
